GOTCHA, BITCH!
This post from the all-too-brilliant The Smoking Gun goes to show what happens when you just believe, believe, believe and cannae be arsed to do a little background checking. It amazes me that an editor would just swallow this incredible story wholesale, without some serious proof. And Frey pretty much pins it on his publisher and editor, saying in effect "Hey - they said it was cool to print."
So Oprah was denied the opportunity to buy a handbag in Paris, and look how effective what she did was. Now, this dude made her look like a tool on her own show and she made him a millionaire for it - if I was her, I'd rip him 3 new assholes and demand everyone return their books to the publisher. She got punked, big time.

EVERY author embelishes, tweaks, ad libs... In David Sedaris' non-fiction essay collection, Naked, Sedaris claims to have visited a nudist colony by himself. This was a "tweak". I was there that day and Mr. Sedaris was in the company of his very recognizable actress sister Amy whos hair was died red for her (now famous) Kevyn Aucoin photo shoot.
